I was staring into space. Staring at a white wall that apparently shared with us nothing at all.
I pressed my finger against the wall, then stepped back. With my arms neatly pressed to my side, I patiently waited for the door to open. I was told there was no door, for there was no doorframe and there would have to be one to hold the door into place and make sure it can swing on its hinges to open the way to another world.
When I stepped back I could see my fingerprint firmly installed into the surface of the wall. I’ve seen before where you can push your finger onto a fingerprint identification system and all of a sudden a doorway opens. However, this time, it wasn’t the case, or it simply appeared not to be the case.
Another person walked into the room, where I stood immersed in the fantastical realms that had indeed just unfolded before me. I’m sure they must have wondered what I was staring at, but this vision couldn’t be explained verbally; it had to be visited in person.
A moment later, we decided to play Four in a Row and just when the fourth disc made four, they had realised what I was looking at upon entering the room.
I removed the four discs from their playing board and lined them up on the floor. Then my opponent pressed their fingerprint onto the wall.
We stepped back. There was a moment of steady eye contact which confirmed our arrival. But, we hadn’t even noticed the transportation unit, nor had we noticed that the other side of the wall had hinges, making way for an easy return.
We saw UOWCIII. I asked them whether they had returned through the door, as I could see their reflections in a large expanse of water which pressed its fingerprint against the wall, whilst standing with its arms neatly to the side of the striped grass.
I passed UOWCIII a playing disc when a chessboard appeared, 64 squares, 8 rows, and 8 columns, hung from a string of aerial silk. Many movements and tricks we’d never seen from a chessboard with no people to play - jumps and climbs, dropping and flying in a dramatic pose of excitement.
Suddenly, an audience appeared. One hundred windows unglazed, an eye for every square; four hundred eyes, glazed, in a glassy dreamlike state of pure wonder.
